Halifax, NS: A group of Halifax students enrolled in Junior Achievement's, Company Program have launched their Company, Resail in time for Christmas. ReSail, manufactures and sells drawstring and duffel bags out of recycled sails.
"We are excited to sell our products this Sunday at the Farmer's Market and to see the response to our recycled sail bags," said Stuart Aftanas, ReSail's Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
The Citadel High students along with a student from Central Junior High enrolled in Junior Achievement's Company Program in October. They formed their Company under the guidance of volunteers from The Barrington Consulting Group who offer their time to provide business experience for the students.
ReSail has benefitted from local sailors donating their old sails and the students work with the creative team at Nova Fashion Incubators to make the bags.
"The synergy created with Nova Fashion Incubators has allowed us to have direct involvement with the design and production of the bags and we are there most days after school cutting sails," said Aftanas.
In addition, the ReSail team meets weekly at The Barrington Consulting Group's offices to talk about strategy and to seek counsel from their business volunteers.
"We have learned so much about business in the last two months and we know these business skills will help us with ReSail's success," added Aftanas.
